Context

Art Basel Miami · ART Basel | Miami · 2022 Collaborating with the Aku Dreams Team making a sound design for the NFT Exhibition at Art Basel, Miami. Durkatwork asked for 3 unique soundscapes fitting the feel and visuals presented on the large walls in the Aku World space, and 3 cinematics played in the helmet. A Red World, Blue World and Dark World soundscape were created.

The question

How can we make visitors feel as though they’ve stepped inside the video wall itself, while transforming the surrounding space through sounds they’ve never experienced before?

Our approach

We created three distinct sonic worlds for three extraterrestrial environments: the Blue Planet, the Red Planet, and the Dark Planet. Each world received its own musical theme, blending atmospheric tones with carefully crafted sound design to create a unique identity and sense of place. For the Red Planet, we took authenticity a step further. Using actual recordings captured on Mars by NASA's rover, we built the entire sonic environment around the raw textures and noises of the Martian landscape. The result was more than an imagined alien soundscape. Visitors were immersed in a world whose sonic foundation genuinely came from another planet.

Outcome
